Orchestral Music from Latin America

As heard on NPR's Alt.Latino, "There's more to classical music from Latin America than you think. Listen and discover that world for yourself." Enjoy this fantastic introduction to classical music from Latin America! Alt.Latino highlights a few composers who might change your mind about classical music from Latin America. From award-winning contemporary composer, Roberto Sierra, "Sinfonia No. 3" combines traditional elements of Puerto Rican salsa with rhythms remnant of the Spanish Caribbean (Naxos 8.559817). Internationally acclaimed, Sierra's work adds just the right amount of spice to orchestral classics. Regarded as one of the most important composers of the 20th century, Alberto Ginastera's "Malambo" is infectious. The Argentinian native expertly adapted a simple ballet piece excerpt into an orchestral gem in folk-style. Other notable composers on the Alt.Latino list include Silvestre Revueltas (Naxos 9.555917), Louis Moreau Gottschalk, and arguably the most significant Latin American composer- Heitor Villa-Lobos. Revolutionary in the 19th and 20th century, these composers continue to make their mark in contemporary classical music.

An Epic Opportunity

The Naxos Licensing team around the world offers world-class internship opportunities. Details about internships at the Naxos of America office can be found above in the .PDF. John Brillhart, our most recent intern, recaps his thoughts on his time as part of the Naxos Licensing team below, along with a playlist of his top 10 tracks for licensing. We wish him the best in the future and hope to see him again as a colleague in the music licensing community! --- "Coming from absolutely no experience in the music licensing world, I truly did not know what to expect when starting my journey at Naxos. However, with the help of Nick D'Angiolillo and Allie Leon, I was able to learn so much about this industry and the ways of Naxos. One of the ways I was able to truly learn about the industry was processing agreements and reading all of what goes into a contract. Other than this, Naxos has allowed me to help out when it comes to song searches to find music for projects, which has always been a dream of mine. During my time here, I have also worked on this very website by creating artists and label pages, which is something that I will always be able to remember as a contribution that I could have with this amazing company! Words can't describe how I have enjoyed being in the actual field and learning all that I have. Thank you Naxos for giving me a great experience and helping me on my journey into starting my career! Time truly does fly by when you are having a good time!" Hear my top 10 tracks for licensing! -John Brillhart

Fairouz on NPR's Fresh Air

As heard on NPR & WHYY's "Fresh Air". Perfect to enhance any project's discussion of intense issues - Fairouz' music is timely and interesting & can only be licensed from Naxos. See all that Fairouz has to offer! Mohammed Fairouz has rapidly become one of the most highly regarded composers of his generation, receiving wide acclaim for works such as Native Informant (Naxos 8.559744) and his 4th symphony, In the Shadow of No Towers (Naxos 8.573205). These songs, representing a decade of vocal writing, deal with powerful social issues and sensual celebrations of life and being human. From Refugee Blues to After the Revels, the above themes span texts from ancient times to World War II. The theme of loss is also compellingly expressed, with the intense, distilled narrative of No Orpheus, a portrait of departed family members, and concluding with Edgar Allan Poe’s last completed poem, the hauntingly mournful Annabel Lee. Take a musical journey through No Orpheus, as heard on Fresh Air
